Knepp Castle in West Sussex.
He has been re-wilding his estate since giving up on conventional agriculture ten years ago. Now herds of Old English Longhorn cattle, Exmoor ponies, fallow deer and Tamworth pigs roam freely across 1,400ha, grazing what and where they like.
This naturalistic grazing project produces perfect habitat for a myriad of species of flora and fauna. A ‘gentle’ profit now comes from sales of free-range meat, environmental payments and income from rental properties[/tiller][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_teaser_grid grid_columns_count=”1″ grid_content=”teaser” grid_layout=”thumbnail_title_text” grid_link=”link_post” grid_template=”grid” grid_thumb_size=”150×150″ grid_posttypes=”post” grid_categories=”Environment” class=”page_cat_environment” width=”1/1″ last=”last” grid_posts_offset=”8″ grid_link_target=”_self” grid_layout_mode=”fitRows” order=”DESC”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][tiller]
Grass roof landscaping
A new sewage plant in Sussex has one of the largest grass roofs in the UK.
Constructed to blend into the beautiful South Down’s landscape, the green roof covers an area the size of four and a half football pitches. The grass was grown in Cambridgeshire – a county not particularly known for its grass.
When complete the works, owned by Southern Water, will treat 95 million litres of waste water a day from some of the south coast towns.[/tiller][/vc_column][/vc_row]
