Welcome to the new updated “talking grass” blog and, now for the first time a shop – a project that has been in my head for many months, even years!

I first set up TalkingGrass in 2011 to share all the wonderful grassy stories I come across through my work as a grassland writer and editor.

Actually, I wanted to write a book – about how this amazing plant can produce the best meat and dairy products, different playing surfaces for sports like golf, cricket, rugby and horse-racing and effervescent and joyful garden displays and closely mown lawns. Also how meadows can offer environmental benefits like capturing carbon and floodwaters.Sara Gregson Talking Grass

Six years ago, a blog seemed an ideal way to collect all my grassy stories in one place and for anyone else that is interested in grass, to see. Fifty-one blogs later and the time had come for a refresh!

Why a shop?
So why have I incorporated an online shop? Well, my goal is to encourage everyone – not just those involved in agriculture, sports or gardens, to think about grass – and what it offers us.

I shall be selling beautiful and useful things that have a hint of ‘grassiness’ about them – for example cards with grass designs, bunting with grassy material and notebooks with beautiful grass drawings on their covers.

I shall also be promoting the innovative and dedicated ‘Pasture for Life’ farmers, who produce beef, lamb and dairy with no grains – just grass – unlike most of the meat reared and sold in this country. This produces healthy meat – purely because of the grass the animals eat.

And I shall be running meadow walks in the summer – to allow others to discover the gorgeous wild flowers and grasses, as they show off their glorious seed heads to the world.
